Recovery After Dental Implants

Your Recovery Guide

At Formula Implants, we understand that recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. Whether you've had All-on-4, All-on-6, or advanced zygomatic or pterygoid implants, following our recovery guidelines will help you heal comfortably and protect your new smile.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

  • Swelling & Bruising

Some swelling, bruising, or mild discomfort is normal for the first few days.

  • Temporary Teeth

Temporary teeth fitted on the same day may feel slightly tight initially, but this is normal and will settle as you heal.

  • Soreness

Your gums and jaw may feel sore, especially in areas where implants were placed.

  • Minor Bleeding

Minor bleeding from the gums is possible for the first 24 hours.

First 24-48 Hours

  • Ice Packs

Apply ice packs to the outside of your face in 15-minute intervals to reduce swelling.

  • Pain Relief

Take prescribed pain relief or anti-inflammatories as directed.

  • Rest

Rest and avoid strenuous activity for the first 48 hours to allow your body to focus on healing.

  • Elevation

Keep your head slightly elevated when lying down to help reduce swelling.

Diet Guidelines

  • Soft Foods

Stick to soft foods and liquids for the first few days.

  • Avoid Hard Foods

Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that may put pressure on the implants.

  • Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid alcohol and hot beverages immediately after surgery.

  • Gradual Reintroduction

Gradually reintroduce firmer foods as healing progresses.

Oral Hygiene

  • Gentle Rinsing

Gently rinse your mouth with salt water or a recommended mouthwash after meals.

  • Careful Brushing

Avoid brushing directly over the surgical site for the first few days, but maintain good oral hygiene around temporary teeth.

  • Clinician Guidance

Your clinician will provide guidance on cleaning your implants and temporary teeth to prevent infection.

Activity & Lifestyle

  • Exercise

Avoid heavy exercise or bending over for the first few days.

  • Smoking

We advise against smoking during your recovery.

  • Alcohol

Avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours.

Healing Timeline

Your recovery journey from day one to your final restoration.

  • 01

    Week 1-2

Swelling and discomfort should reduce, and gums begin to settle.

  • 02

    Week 2-4

You may feel more comfortable eating soft foods, and your temporary teeth should feel more natural.

  • 03

    1-3 Months

Bone and gum integration continue; follow-up appointments will ensure implants are healing correctly.

  • 04

    Final Restoration

Your permanent full-arch restoration will replace temporary teeth once healing is complete, providing long-term function and aesthetics.

Advanced Implants (Zygomatic or Pterygoid)

These implants are used for patients who cannot be treated with conventional implants alone. Recovery may be slightly longer due to the complexity of the placement, but patients still receive temporary teeth on the same day. Follow the same care, diet, and oral hygiene instructions, with extra attention to any areas of swelling in the cheek or back of the jaw.
