At Formula Implants, we understand that recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. Whether you've had All-on-4, All-on-6, advanced zygomatic or pterygoid implants, or implant-retained overdentures, following our recovery guidelines will help you heal comfortably and protect your new smile.
Some swelling, bruising, or mild discomfort is normal for the first few days.
Temporary teeth or overdentures fitted on the same day may feel slightly tight initially, but this is normal and will settle as you heal.
Your gums and jaw may feel sore, especially in areas where implants were placed.
Minor bleeding from the gums is possible for the first 24 hours.
Apply ice packs to the outside of your face in 15-minute intervals to reduce swelling.
Take prescribed pain relief or anti-inflammatories as directed.
Rest and avoid strenuous activity for the first 48 hours to allow your body to focus on healing.
Keep your head slightly elevated when lying down to help reduce swelling.
Stick to soft foods and liquids for the first few days.
Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that may put pressure on the implants or overdentures.
Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid alcohol and hot beverages immediately after surgery.
Gradually reintroduce firmer foods as healing progresses.
Gently rinse your mouth with salt water or a recommended mouthwash after meals.
Avoid brushing directly over the surgical site for the first few days, but maintain good oral hygiene around temporary teeth or overdentures.
Your clinician will provide guidance on cleaning your implants, overdentures, and temporary teeth to prevent infection.
Avoid heavy exercise or bending over for the first few days.
We advise against smoking during your recovery.
Avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours.
Your recovery journey from day one to your final restoration.
Swelling and discomfort should reduce, and gums begin to settle.
You may feel more comfortable eating soft foods, and your temporary teeth or overdentures should feel more natural.
Bone and gum integration continue; follow-up appointments will ensure implants are healing correctly.
Your permanent full-arch restoration or overdentures will replace temporary teeth once healing is complete, providing long-term function and aesthetics.
These implants are used for patients who cannot be treated with conventional implants alone. Recovery may be slightly longer due to the complexity of the placement, but patients still receive temporary teeth or overdentures on the same day. Follow the same care, diet, and oral hygiene instructions, with extra attention to any areas of swelling in the cheek or back of the jaw.
Call Formula Implants immediately if you notice any of the following. Following these guidelines will help ensure your new smile or overdentures heal well and remain strong, functional, and natural-looking for years to come.
Excessive or prolonged bleeding that does not subside.
Severe pain that does not respond to prescribed medication.
Signs of infection, such as pus, fever, or swelling that worsens after 48 hours.
Any unusual mobility of your temporary teeth, overdentures, or implants.
